A garage cleanout often mixes items to keep with things ready to leave. Make those decisions visible before a crew arrives. Label keep areas and set aside tools, keys, documents and sentimental belongings. An undecided box should remain separate until the person responsible has checked it.
Look beyond the visible pile
Take photos of each wall, storage area and any space behind larger items. Tell the business about overhead storage, steps, access from the house, or items that block the garage door. Explain whether you want a selected pile removed or most contents cleared so the estimate describes the actual amount of work.
Name items that need a separate plan
Identify paint, fuel, batteries, chemicals, sharp tools, liquids and unknown containers rather than grouping them into general household clutter. Leave unfamiliar contents closed and ask the business which materials it accepts. Also identify dense debris, large machines or very heavy storage cabinets so the crew can assess handling and pricing.
Define what an empty garage means
Removing contents is different from dismantling shelving, removing cabinets or cleaning surfaces. Ask which tasks are included and what condition the area will be left in. If there are shelves or fixtures to keep, mark them clearly. On pickup day, walk through the scope, review the total and confirm any extra work before it starts.
